Airfield Operations – general

a. There is a blanket speed limit on the airfield of 20 mph and 5 mph in front of the hangars
b. Club vehicles and launching equipment must only be used by people who have been trained and authorised to operate them.
c. Accidents or Incidents involving any person or aircraft, or involving any aspect of flying operations must be reported immediately to the Duty Instructor
d. Accident & emergency procedures are located in the launch point bus and also beside the public phone in the clubhouse reception area.

The Circuit

a. Husbands Bosworth airfield is a grass strip running east-west (09 / 27) at an altitude of 505 feet. There is a short (1000 ft) parallel tarmac strip occasionally used by aircraft of all types.

b. The entire airfield is landable.

c. 127.575MHz is the frequency used for air/ground communication up to 3000 ft and 10Nm range. Tugs, winch, launch point and office will all be on this frequency. The ground station callsign is ‘Hus Bos Radio’. When making general traffic calls use ‘Hus Bos Traffic’

d. For powered aircraft Husbands Bosworth is PPR. All visiting power pilots (including pilots of selflaunching and turbo gliders) must acquaint themselves with the current NOISE ABATEMENT patterns and conduct their flying in accordance.

e. Power aircraft fly their circuit on the South side of the airfield.

f. Gliders normally circuit to the North. Glider pilots who need to fly a circuit on the South side must use extreme caution since that side can be very busy with tugs (circuiting at 300ft) motorgliders and visiting power aircraft (circuiting at 800ft) and also the police helicopter. Listen out on 127.575.

JOINING AND LANDING - information for pilots of powered aircraft intending to fly into or out of Husbands Bosworth
• Please remember we are PPR only and that radio clearances will not be given. Please look at the web pages for both Joining instructions and Noise Abatement procedures.

• In the summer we are very active and visiting aircraft may be asked to hold off for a clear period, please do not be surprised or upset should this request be forthcoming.

• Upon parking up, please report to the office to pay the Landing Fee and fill in the aircraft movement log. Limited fuelling may be possible by prior arrangement only and is to be paid for at the time.

Arrival information
Caution, intense gliding activity and glider launching operations.

Call up and listen out on 127.575MHz.

Caution Police helicopter base on south side of airfield. Call sign 'Police 22' (127.575MHz)

Do not over-fly the airfield. We are cleared to launch gliders by winch to 3000ft agl.

All powered aircraft circuits to the south. (Glider circuits to the north).

Join downwind 800ft QFE, caution glider tugs operate a 300ft circuit.

Approach and land close to the boundary fence, parallel with road.

All aircraft turn left on landing, then hold to observe approach. When clear to do so, back track parallel and close to the southerly fence line to a position downwind of the launch point. Cross when it is clear to do so.

Do not taxi across the laid winch cables; wait for the cables to be drawn in to the winch before crossing, unless signalled to cross by the Launch Point Controller.

All visiting pilots must report to the office immediately after arrival and sign the 'Aircraft Movements book'.

Departure information.

Before start up and taxiing for departure the pilot must obtain approval from the Duty Instructor at the launch point.

All departures must start at the launch point established for the day, and only after the pilot is happy that he/she can depart without interfering with any current operations.

On westerly departures, pilots should maintain runway heading until just after crossing the A5199, then turn left 20 degrees to aim towards E end of Stanford reservoir (to avoid overflying Cotehill Farm) until almost reaching the canal. If departing to the North, turn right keeping the canal on your left until passing abeam North Kilworth; thereafter turn on track. If departing to the South turn left keeping the disused railway line on your right until passing abeam the Golf Club; thereafter turn on track.

On easterly departures pilots should turn 20 degrees left or right to avoid overflying the farm at east end of the airfield.

In the climb out aircraft must avoid overflying all villages within a 5nm radius of the airfield whilst lower than 2000ft agl.

Pilots are asked to familiarise themselves with current airfield Noise Abatement Procedures before departure. (A copy is available in the clubhouse).

Noise Abatement Procedures
This map illustrates the most noise sensitive areas close to the airfield (circled in red). These areas must be avoided at all times. In addition to the areas marked, try to avoid over-flying farms and other places of habitation.
To help avoid the areas circled on the map above, the initial departure and rejoining tracks have been drawn in. These routings help maintain the greatest distance and height from the most noise sensitive areas and should be followed. The arrival track does not depict the exact position of the down wind leg; it is simply a guide.
Taking off towards the West (rwy 27), hold runway heading until just after crossing the A5199, then turn left 20 degrees to aim towards E end of Stanford reservoir (to avoid overflying Cotehill Farm) until almost reaching the canal and then, if departing to the North turn right keeping the canal on your left until passing abeam North Kilworth; thereafter turn on track. If departing to the South turn left keeping the disused railway line on your right until passing abeam the Golf Club; thereafter turn on track.
Taking off towards the East (rwy 09), as soon as practical after take off and not before passing the airfield boundary, turn left or right to avoid overflying "The Wrongs Farm". Then, after passing abeam Sibbertoft village, turn on track.
Arriving aircraft from the North-East must keep a good look out as you will be passing very close to glider circuit on the north side of the airfield. To help minimise conflicts use the south-east arrival route in preference.
Towing aircraft returning to circuit will generally fly low-level circuits (300ft QFE) to the South of the airfield.
